File Menu

The File menu offers the following commands:

• New
• Open
• Close
• Save
• Save As
• Import
• Export
• Recent TMs
• Clear Recent TMs List
• TM Properties
• User Preferences
• Exit

New

Creates a new empty translation memory. You will be prompted to select a source and a target language.

Shortcut: Ctrl+N

Open

Loads an existing translation memory file. If Olifant detects a format other than TMX for which there are reading options, the corresponding dialog box is opened.

If a translation memory is already open, it is closed before the new one is open. To add one translation memory to another, or to open a TMX file with options, use the Import command.

Shortcut: Ctrl+O

Close

Closes the current translation memory. If some changes have not been saved yet, you will be prompted to save or not the changes before closing the TM.

Shortcut: Ctrl+F4

Save

Saves the current translation memory. If the format of the file that was opened cannot save all the information, the Save As dialog box is called. If the original format of the file can store all the information, the file is saved over the original one.

You can ensure a backup copy of the previous file is made by selecting the corresponding option in the User Preferences dialog box.

Save As

Saves the current translation memory in a new file. You can also select in what format the file should be saved. The new file becomes the current translation memory.

To save a portion of the translation memory use the command Export.

Import

Imports an existing translation memory into the current one. If no translation memory is currently opened, a new one will be created automatically.

Export

Exports the current translation memory to a new file. If the filter is set, only the visible entries (i.e. the entries corresponding to the filter) are exported. The entries are exported in the order they are listed. Sort by ascending Key order to export a file in its original order.

Recent TMs

Loads one of the translation memories used recently. The nine last files are listed. When there is nine entries, the one at the bottom is dropped to make room for a new one at the top. Use the Clear Recent TMs List command to reset the list.

Clear Recent TMs List

Empties the list of the most recent translation memories open.

TM Properties

Opens the TM Properties dialog box where you can view and change the properties of the current translation memory (for example: change the source and target languages, add or remove languages or attributes, etc).

User Preferences

Opens the User Preferences dialog box where you can specify various user-related options.

Exit

Closes the application. If the current translation memory has been modified, Olifant asks if you want to save it before exiting.
